Sherwood FC have been awarded £5,040 from the Big Lottery Fund's 'Awards for All' scheme.
The money has been earmarked for kit and equipment for new teams as well as helping to pay pitch fees at Carrington.
Club Fundraising Officer Simon Buttenshaw said 'With the club developing and growing every year, funding like this gives us the confidence to provide more and more opportunities for young people to play football. Our youngest team - under 7 boys - have been waiting patiently for their Sherwood kit - and now thanks to this grant they will be able to start playing matches against other teams'.
It is a condition of the grant that the club publicise the award, so a photo-shoot for the local paper will be arranged soon.
